Designer Wedding Guide For the Family

With the wedding season round the corner, there is a buzz in the air about the latest trousseau collections, jewllery, make up trends and accessories – all of which focus the bride and the groom. We chatted up with fashion designer Varun Bahl on trends and tips for the family and friends of the bride and the groom. After all, they are the people who help in making of a fairytale wedding and should look their best too.

  1. With a lot of running around to do, what should the bride/ groom’s brother wear on the wedding day?

The outfit should be practical and dressy
Cool colours and simple yet classy cuts

For the bride and grooms brother’s a nice bandhgala with a short kurta would look very nice. An embroidered bandhgala with a plain kurta with little embroidery on the sleeves is apt for the summer wedding. Keep the look light and simple and yet dressy given the occasion.

2. Bride/ Groom’s sister has to look beautiful and comfortable. What do you suggest for her considering that we have long summers in India?

Colours like ivory look classy and chic
Colours like ivory, orange and pink are a rage this season

The bride and groom’s sister should go for a light lehenga with either appliqué work or just have a fully embroidered blouse with a plain lehenga and go for brighter colours like ivory, orange and pinks. These colours are the perfect hues for a summer wedding.

3. What should the parents of the to-be-couple wear?

The mother could opt for a saree while this anarkali would suit the girls in the family
Sarees make for an elegant wear for the mother

With the bride and groom, it’s a very important day for the parents to be dressed up and look their best. For the mothers, I think an elegant saree like a maroon or an old rose color with embroidered blouse would be the perfect choice. While for the father, a charcoal black suit with a bright colored or textured pocket square would go well.

4. Friends add charm and fun to the whole wedding ceremony. What should they wear to stand out?

Friends add the fun element to the whole ceremony
Comfort and style should be the common factor while picking up a dress
